Beverly Campbell Massie, 69, of Lowesville, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026 in Lynchburg. Born April 16, 1957, she was a daughter of Carleen Humphrey Campbell and the late Manford Julian Campbell.
Beverly served her community as a social worker and as a teacher's aide for Nelson County Public Schools. She was also a member of Rose Union Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir. Beverly served others in various capacities through the P.R.V.F.D. Ladies Auxiliary and the Home Extension Agency.
A woman of many talents, Beverly enjoyed editing and writing, especially poetry, which she studied at Sweet Briar College as an English and Creative Writing major. Her love of history started with a Latin course taught by Ms. Wimer at Amherst County High School; she was adept at tracing her and others’ complex web of ancestors, as well connecting these stories to happenings in the wider world.
Beverly was a wonderful cook, sharing her gifts with others at the supper table, at Homecoming events, and school. Above all else, she was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend; we in the community who knew her will continue to miss her.
She is survived by a son, Daniel Clifton Massie (Kimberly Moore); a daughter, Kate Goodfellow (Jason); a brother, Julian Campbell (Amy); sisters, Judy Cash (G.H.), Sharon Campbell, and Rosie Lewis (Steve); grandchildren, Samuel Massie, Clare Goodfellow, and Shirley Massie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other special relatives and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Taylor Massie.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2026 in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery by Lay Pastor Wayne Massie. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home.
