Bonnie Lee Guthrie, 87, of Madison Heights, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, surrounded by love.
Bonnie grew up in the Roanoke area with her mother, father, and brother. She was admitted to the Central VA Training Center at age 18 and remained there until she was 39 years old. Bonnie then went to live with Margaret Saunders in Afton until Ms. Saunders’ passing in 2003. It was then, a devoted friend, Ed Saunders and his wife Sarah, stepped in to help facilitate arrangements for Bonnie to be moved to the Meridian House, and ultimately to her forever home.
In February 2008, Bonnie found her final earthly home with the Boyette Family. Marvin, Debbie, and their children, Landon Boyette (Heather), Blake Boyette (Lauren), and Blair McCallman (Taylor), along with six grandchildren and her dog, Shadow, were blessed to love and care for her until Jesus called her home.
Though Bonnie faced life’s challenges with special needs, she embraced every day with a heart full of joy, innocence, and wonder that touched everyone she met. Her love for animals was boundless. She has had dogs, cats, chickens, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Bonnie had a gift for making every creature feel safe and loved. Her presence made life brighter for everyone lucky enough to know her.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we are better for having known her.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by Pastor Dwayne Martin with burial to follow in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
