Cecil Dickerson Collins Jr., 80, of Roseland, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at his home. Born in Danville, VA, May 4, 1944, he was a son of the late Cecil Dickerson Collins and Mildred Gibson Collins.
Cecil, affectionately named “Coon Hunter” and “Otis” by his friends and family, had been a mechanic for Greif Paper Mill, retiring after 35 years. He loved trout fishing, and hunting all types of game, including deer, bears, turkeys and coons. Through his love of hunting, he became a member of the VA Bear Hunter’s Association. He also enjoyed logging and racing.
Cecil was a “tell it like it is” kind of person. He was never afraid to speak his mind, and with him, you always knew where you stood. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Timothy “Tim” Scott Collins (Angie); brother, Ronald Collins; grandchildren, Kelsie Shifflett (Wes), and Zack Collins (Kaelyn); great grandchildren, Levi Collins, and Lacie Collins; nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Collins; granddaughter, Emily, and great grandchild, baby Shifflett.
