Charles Garret Gill

Charles Garret Gill, 59, of Lynchburg, VA, departed this life on Monday morning, September 21, 2026 at Seven Hills Nursing and Rehab. Born December 29, 1966 in Staten Island, New York, he was a son of Thelma Gill Vaughan and the late Carlos Barnes.

Charles was a member of Rhema Word Life Changing Ministries in Lynchburg, VA, where he was a faithful member until his health started to fail. He was educated at McKee High School in Staten Island, NY. Charles also worked for Johnson and Johnson Disposal, as well as for Sun Chemical in New York.

Charles had a kind-hearted and loving spirit. Children held a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed cooking. Most of all, Charles loved spending time with his family.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are his loving mother, Thelma Vaughan (Shaffer) of Roseland; his brother, Lamont Vaughan (Kikaxy) of Winston-Salem; his daughter, Taniyah Valentine of Bronx, NY; nephew, Shaffer C. Vaughan; niece, Teyanna Benjamin; his beloved companion of 20 years, Lisa Johnson of Lynchburg; six step-grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oak Hill Memorial Gardens. Viewing and visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
