Charlie "Roy" Mickens

Charlie Mickens (known as “Roy”) passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at Washington Hospital Center. Born on May 17, 1948, in Arrington, Virginia to Betty Morse Mickens and Andrew Jackson Mickens. He was educated in the Nelson Memorial School system where he graduated High School in 1966.

After graduating high school Roy relocated to Washington, DC and worked several jobs in the Home Improvement field, Security, at the Old Post Office Pavilion and Rodman’s Convenience store. After retiring Roy continued his love for home improvement, landscaping and painting he taught many family and friends along the way of his kraft, being known as the one to call for home improvement and new home updates.

Roy enjoyed dancing and being the life of the party (which he was) He loved music and the sounds by James Brown and Elvis Presley. He would imitate their dance moves and have everybody on the floor. He was a longtime fan of the Dallas “Cowboys.”

Roy will be remembered by his wittiness, demanding attitude and being, the life of the party, we will miss him dearly.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Jackson Mickens; his mother, Betty Morse Mickens; his brother, Claude; sister, Carol, and a companion, Lillian Smith

He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Jacinta “Cindy”; sons, Kareem Abdul, Terrence and Nik; his sisters, Jackie and Audrey; his brothers, Andrew “Mickey” and Kelvin “KB”; his grandchildren, Renaldo Jr, Angel, Navar, Justin, Jordan, Tyler and Christian; great-grandchildren,

Malachi, Jade and Omari; sisters-in-law, Maria and Janette; daughters-in-law, Trena and Tiffany, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends that he truly loved and cherished.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Little Zion Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Robert Meredith. Viewing will take place from 12 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside Little Zion Baptist Church.
