David Lawrence Wilson, 57, of Piney River, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 in Charlottesville. Born in Bethesda, MD, May 16, 1969, he was a son of the late Robert Wilson, and Peggy Jean Fitzgerald Wilson Lawhorne and Icem Lawhorne.

A dedicated and skilled professional, David worked as a mechanic for the Target Distribution Center T560 for 25 years, where his hard work and reliability were deeply valued.

For David, Sunday was always the best day of the week. He lived his life with a deep, unwavering faith and an immense love for his Piney River Baptist Church family. A pillar of his congregation, he served with dedication in numerous capacities, most notably as the Chairman of the Deacons. Whether he was lifting his voice in the choir, helping maintain the church property on the Building and Grounds Committee, or working behind the scenes to run the sound system and slide shows, he poured his heart into serving others. Above all, he was a true prayer warrior who stood in the gap for his family, friends, and anyone in need.

Beyond his church walls, David was a talented musician who found great joy in the gift of music. Blessed with a beautiful voice, he shared his talent generously. He passed this deep love of music down to his son, Lukas, whom he loved beyond measure, and nothing brought David more happiness than watching, hearing, and playing music together with him. Anyone who heard David sing knew that music was truly a gift he carried in his soul.

David deeply loved his daughter and was proud of the young woman she had become, often seeing pieces of himself in her. He carried immense pride for her as he cheered her on loudly at every sporting event, and he always cherished the special "bully" love she uniquely gave him. His family will forever live with the memories of simple, perfect moments spent together, especially porch sitting in the crisp fall air with his family and their three dogs, Max, Sadie, and Cooper.

A die-hard Atlanta Braves fan, David loved to attend games with Kayla and Lukas, and frequently watched them on tv together. David was also an avid fisherman who loved the peace of the water, but nothing anchored him more than his family, who were his greatest joy in life.

David's legacy of faith, service, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever celebrated by the family he adored so completely.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Debbie Wilson, who he called, “babygirl”; daughter, Kayla Dooms; sons, Lukas Wilson, and Hunter Wilson; brothers, Steve Wilson (Loretta), and Ken Wilson (Sherry), and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Caroline Tippit, Dr. Angela Taylor, cardiologist, and to the staff at UVA Health Dialysis Amherst, for all the love, support, and expert care David received. We are grateful for each and every one of you.

The family would also like to thank each and every prayer warrior who prayed without ceasing for David during these past nine years. Your love and prayers were felt and encouraging on the hardest of days. We love and thank God for you.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by Pastor James Bryant, with special remarks by Wayne Massie and Carl Massie. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026 at the funeral home.

After the burial, the family invites you to Piney River Baptist Church Social Hall for a time of food, fellowship and remembrance. Following the meal, everyone is invited to bring their instrument to the sanctuary for a gospel jam session held in David’s memory.

Serving as pallbearers are Lukas Wilson, Ronnie Wood Wood, Wayne Massie, A.D. Massie, Carl Massie, Greg Campbell, Mike Whitehead, and Ken Mays.luk
