Georgia Lee Haas Tolbert went to be with Jesus on the evening of April 19, 2025, passing peacefully in the home where she spent her whole life.
Born in Nelson County, Virginia on April 11, 1947, to George and Reevie Haas, Georgia was the loving wife of Homer Ray Tolbert Sr. for over 56 years. A lifelong homemaker, Georgia was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found passion and joy in her yard, growing flowers and feeding her birds and wildlife, and in the lifetime of memories that were associated with all of her “junk.”
Georgia loved the Lord with all her heart. She could quote an astounding number of Bible verses from memory and would share them often, along with her quick wit and candid observations. She attended several churches throughout her life, including Clifford Baptist Church, and Bethel Baptist Church where she faithfully taught children’s Sunday School and sang in the choir. Georgia most recently attended St. Stephens Baptist Church when her health allowed, and joined Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville, NC online on other Sundays.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Sr., her daughter-in-law, Angie Martin Tolbert, five sisters, Reevie Bryant (Churchill), Alice Fox (Emmett), Jane Mays (Herbert), Gertrude Haas, and Gracie Bond (Emile), and an honorary brother, Jimmy Holt. She was also preceded by her devoted dogs, Moose and Maggie.
She is survived by four sons- Ray Jr. (Angie), Keith (Angie G.), Scott (Beth) and Jason (Gloria), ten grandchildren- Taylor Cargill (Matthew), Mary Catherine Tolbert, Sarah Overstreet (Ricky), Rebekah Wright, Jesse Tolbert, Zach Gunter, Bryce Tolbert, Lucy Tolbert, Cody Tolbert and Jake Tolbert (Rachel), and her loving sister, Mildred Schlosser (Al). She was blessed with eleven great-grandchildren, Fynleigh and Demi Glover, Griffin and Faron Overstreet, Grant Tolbert, Carter, Tripp and Ivy Wright, Brinlee Gunter, Sadie Tolbert, and an expected great-grandson Tolbert. In addition to many other nieces and nephews, Georgia’s final years were made immeasurably easier by the love and devotion of her nieces, JoAnn Martin (Bryan) and Alice Jane Stewart (Gary), and her great-nieces, Melanie and Stephanie Martin. She also found great comfort in the presence of her adopted fur buddy, Missy, and all of her grandpups.
The family will receive visitors at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home in Roseland, VA on Thursday evening, April 24 from 6pm-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25 at Woodland Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Augusta Health for their stellar care and kindness during her final illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to your church, your local animal shelter or to the fight against breast cancer, a disease that she previously battled and defeated
