Hazel Angus Cash, 87 of Amherst passed away unexpectedly on 2/9/2026. She was the wife of the late Delbert Cash “Boots” and was born 1/22/1939 to the late Raleigh and Virginia Maddox Angus.

She is survived by her “kids” Melanie Tomlin (John), Laura Floss (Thomas), Janet Fitzgerald (Peditt) and Randall Cash (Sandra) and her grandsons Robert Fitzgerald, Jason Cash (Stephanie), Brandon Cash (Margaret), Christopher Olson and honorary grandson Joshua Smegal. She also leaves behind her cherished great grandchildren Carson Cash, Bethanie Cash and Jaxson Cash.

In addition to her husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her youngest son Darryl Cash, her granddaughter Jessica Fitzgerald and her brothers John “Tom” Angus, James “Jim” Angus, Milton “Whittle” Angus and Robert “Alf” Angus.

She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family including special friends, Ron and Vicki Leary (who she loved like family).

Hazel was a long-time member of Piney River Baptist Church, where she married her true love over 69 years ago. She truly enjoyed attending services and participating in fellowship with others. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She had the kindest soul and caring heart. She worked hard all her life raising a family in a big old Rustic farmhouse.

She was a seamstress, a talent she got from her mom. She made clothes for the kids when they were little and made quilts to keep everyone warm. She was still quilting up until her passing (she had an unfinished quilt in her sewing room). She loved to give these quilts to others and anyone who received one could see the love she put into them.

Hazel had heart problems, which were worsened with the passing of her youngest son, Darryl on 6/12/24 and then her husband, Delbert on 12/8/25. Losing her baby boy and her husband of 69 years was just too much for her heart to take.

Mama, we love you and miss you but know you are at peace.

“Now she’s dancing in the wind with her true love again, where her heart has always been.”

A funeral service will be held 12 noon, Monday, February 16, 2026, at Piney River Baptist Church by Rev. James Bryant with burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Piney River Baptist Church, 1190 Woodson Rd., Roseland, VA 22967.
