James Garfield Hudson

James Garfield Hudson, 85, of Shipman, Virginia, departed this life on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at his home. Born in Nelson County on June 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Abraham and Edith Hudson.

James worked for Concrete Finishers Inc. until his retirement. He loved baseball, fishing, and listening to music. He often spent his time talking on the telephone to friends and family and sitting on his front porch enjoying the sunshine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lula Ann Hudson; brother, Abraham L. Hudson, Jr.; daughter, Patsy Hudson Beverley; son-in-law, Leroy Beverley, and stepson, Ronnie Turner.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Bobby Hudson (Brenda) of Piney River, VA; daughter, Shirley H. Anderson (Edward) of Suffolk, VA; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Johnson (John) of Arrington, VA and Clardine Hudson of Amherst, VA; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Our loved one is gone from this earth, but the memories of him will linger in our hearts and minds, forever. May he rest in peace. We, our family, loved him dearly but God loves him best.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Hendricks, Officiating, and Rev. Mary Carey, Eulogist, with burial to follow in Oak Hill Memorial Gardens. Viewing/visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
