Jessie "Sis" Toliver was called home to rest on Wednesday morning, March 25, 2026. She was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on February 11, 1933 to the late Sherman and Libby Clark.

She was a devoted member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, where she served on the pastor’s aide committee, was a deaconess, and usher for many years.

She is survived by her two sons, Wayne Giles and Eddie "DeeDee" Giles; one daughter, Priscilla "Diane" Giles; one devoted granddaughter, Jessica "JJ" Johnson, and one granddaughter, Buffy Browning; four grandsons, Anthony "Tony" Sandridge, Nathaniel "Fatman" Thompson, Walter Giles, and Nathan Brown; “Lil Sis” Sadie Mae, and her “girls”, Towanda, Linda, and Cathy, and a host of nieces and nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eddie “Hobo” Toliver; her two sons, Nathaniel "Nitten" Giles and Lewis "Pokey" Giles; siblings, Richard, Lewis, Robert " Tailbate", Sherman, Nancy and Charlotte, and two daughters-in-law, Kathy Giles and Joyce Giles.

"Sis" had a heart of gold and such a generous and loving spirit. She was truly an angel on earth. Her faith never waivered. She would always say, " I'm leaving it in the hands of the Lord". "Sis" loved to cook, but her favorite thing to do was spending time with her family. She loved her children beyond measure. She will truly be missed. Everyone who ever met her fell in love with her, they always wanted to take her home with them.

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Amherst Dialysis Center, Afton Family Medical, and her doctors at UVA Hospital for taking such good care of our Mother.

A private service will be held. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
