Roy William Giles, 62, of Arrington, Virginia peacefully departed this life at his home on September 12, 2026. He was born February 29, 1964 in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Walter R. Giles and Pauline Harris Giles.

Roy graduated from Nelson County High School, and in adulthood, became a dedicated hard-worker. Roy had many trades; he initially worked at Regis beauty salon before transitioning into a technician position at ServiceMaster Restore for 10 years, and then finally becoming self-employed in private housekeeping.

“Let Your Light Shine”

Roy confessed his faith at an early age, joining Little Zion Baptist Church, where he served faithfully. With the love of singing for the Lord, Roy joined the Little Zion Baptist Choir, holding that role for many years. Outside of singing, Roy’s light would still shine bright within the church, as he loved preparing food for church events, and lending a helping hand in any way that he could.

Roy was truly someone who never met a stranger. He made friends everywhere he went, and his contagious laugh could brighten any room. He knew how to make a great time out of any occasion and brought laughter, conversation, and an unforgettable personality wherever he went.

Roy found joy in both the lively and the simple moments of life. Christmas was an especially joyful time, where he loved participating in the family’s Christmas karaoke competition, sharing gifts, playing jokes, and enjoying loved ones. On quieter days, Roy could be found sitting on his porch with a cup of coffee, his dog Martin, and music playing.

Creative by nature, Roy had a special eye for design and refurbishing. He could see the beauty and potential in things others might overlook, and took pride in transforming them. His creativity was just one of the many ways his personality shined through.

Although Roy did not have children of his own, he was surrounded by a large and loving family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings, James Russell Giles of Greensboro, NC, Ronnie Walter Giles (Carlitha) of Nelson County, VA, Mark Anthony Giles (Angela) of Amherst County, VA, Gail Pauline Whalen (John) of Nelson County, VA, Gwendolyn Pendleton (Ricky) of Amherst County, VA, Annie Chambers and Cheryl Giles of Nelson County, VA, and Renee Giles of Richmond, VA.

He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, as well as a very close cousin, who was more like a sister, Ronnie Gaines Iniesta. He also leaves behind a host of other loving relatives and friends, especially close friend, Hortencia Becerra “Tencha”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Edward Giles and Sherman Gregory Giles; two sisters, Lynn Giles Thompson and Debbie Giles, and close friend, Joseph Dean.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that the love, laughter, and memories Roy shared remain with us. His life touched many, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” ~ 2 Timothy 4:7
