Withers Mayo Tolliver Jr. "Ray"

Withers Mayo Tolliver, Jr., age 63 of Arrington, VA departed this life on January 1, 2026, at the University of Virgina Hospital. He was affectionately called “Ray” all of his life. He was born on June 22, 1962, at the University of Virginia to the late Withers Mayo Tolliver, Sr. and Roberta Lee Tolliver. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Roseland, VA. He was a graduate of Amherst County High School, Amherst, VA.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Withers Mayo Tolliver, Sr., brother, Douglas Leon Tolliver, his beloved niece, LaKeisha Renee Tolliver, his nephew, Randall Cassell Chambers and his good friend and brother-in-law, Samuel Canada. He was also proceeded in death by his father-in-law, Robert “Coffee” Murphy and his mother-in-law, Ida Mae Murphy. One of Ray’s biggest losses was the passing of his beloved stepson, Christopher Murphy.

Ray worked for A G Dillard for over 14 years. Prior to his employment at A G Dillard, he worked at Con Agra Frozen Foods, Crozet, VA for several years. Ray enjoyed detailing cars and provided lawn care services for many folks throughout the community. He loved watching “The Price is Right” and his favorite football team – the Washington Commanders. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved the time he spent with his grandsons, Kingston and Elijah who he constantly doted over.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Melissa Murphy Tolliver and his beloved mother, Roberta Lee Tolliver, two sons, Anthony Johnson and Withers Mayo Tolliver III, one daughter, NaVada Fisher; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; five sisters, Doretha Canada (Samuel deceased), Priscilla Tolliver, Amherst, VA; Barbara Chambers (Samuel), Dilwyn, VA, Wanda Tolliver (Albert Terrance Preston), Suitland, MD, Faye Giles, Charlottesville, VA (Donald Waugh, Clinton MD). Ray is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.

Ray was a fun loving, kind and gentle soul who had a big sense of humor. No one was a stranger. He had an easy smile and a big personality. He loved being surrounded by his family and had many friends. He loved hanging out with his friends and was the life of any party.

A viewing will be held at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, 7661 Patrick Henry Highway, Roseland VA 22967 one hour before the funeral service. The Homegoing Celebration will take place on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Byrum Parr Funeral Home with interment to follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 116 Zion Hill Road, Roseland, VA.
